Barthelona
Not a whole heap to write about today. We left Sitges with our ‘circles’ intact this morning and battled through some of the rush hour on the outskirts of Barthelona. It wasn’t too bad but we took a few wrong turns and missed all the freeway petrol stations. Not ideal. The car sat nav didn’t recognise Sants Railway Station in The city. It’s only the biggest. We drove around all the one way streets looking for a petrol station because you’ve got to return them full or you lose your $200 bond. Had to do an illegal u turn at one point and the municipal police pulled up alongside. Told them we could locate a servo and we were poor dumb Australian tourists and instead of giving us a ticket they said ‘follow us, we will show you”. They were very nice and helpful.
Then we had to take the car to the rooftop above the Sants station. Had to use my phone to find it. Shit car sat nav. Finally get up top and they say “No only vans up here” so we had to find the Alamo in another car park ground level. We got there and I told the girl at the drop off point that we were told when we picked up the car to deliver it to the roof above the station. ‘Oh that changed a few months ago’. I said it might be a good idea to let your other offices know that. Next time I’ll remember the Alamo.
We couldn’t get into our room at Hotel Gaudi this morning and the receptionist told us check in was at 3.00. So we stored our bags there and wandered up the Il Boqueria, my favourite market anywhere. Went up and down all the aisles and russell was keen to try a pastry escargot. Did I mention before about his liking for sweet things?
After the market we walked around some of the streets and over to the port. We headed back to hotel Gaudi at 2.00 only to be told by the same receptionist “check in is at 3.00 and your rooms are not ready”. We sat in the lounge and rocked back up to the counter at 3.01. She was knocking off and as she crossed the foyer heading for the door , she sees us and says “your rooms are ready”. There were 2 other girls behind the counter and all these people queuing up for their check in. I reckon she just couldn’t be bothered doing the paperwork of checking us in and left it to the next shift. Lazy cow.
Just about to head out and stuff our faces with some of Barthelonas finest products
