Bordeaux
Arrived in Bordeaux early afternoon and found the car park opposite the hotel. Booked into the room and then got instructions from the French receptionist where the nearest laundry was . She even drew it on a map. ‘You go out of Zee otel and you turn left and it’s upear in zis street at number 8. “ so we go out of zee otel and turn left, walk for ages up every little side street but no laundry. We decided to go back to Zee Otel but this time turned right , turned up the first street to number 8 and zare it was Zee laundry. Threw the stuff in the machine and I headed off to find some cold beer. The Carrefoure was just around the next bend so we drank some cold Kronenbergs in very large cans while while the machine did its stuff. Chatted to the only guy in the laundry who was from Oregon and travelling around by himself. While he was folding his stuff I noticed he had about t books that he was putting in his pack. I asked was he reading them. ‘Yes I read about 2 a week’. Who else travels around France reading books? Thought serial killer in the making so we said said seeya and didn’t want to see him again.
Wandered around town which is beautiful. Many of the shops decorate their entrances to brighten them up. We had a few drinks and then came back to near Zee otel had some food and then went to the pub across the road for a few more. .watched a bit of soccer, while Russell had beer and I had vin rouge. Russell was watching the Portuguese people sitting opposite pondering how the women could devour so much food. They weren’t big girls but they both had 2 meals each. Their fellas ate the same but they were big. Russell by the way eats one chicken leg in the evening and he’s full, but throw a pastry or a chocolate bar in front of him and look out.
Early night so I could start on this post only to have it disappear this morning. It’s 8.30am and he’s still fast asleep. Think I’ll have to poke the bear so to speak.
