A Guarda to Oia and then Oia to Baiona.

Yesterday was pretty cruisy. We walked from A Guarda to Oia which was only about 16k . We were thinking Oia was only a small place and probably not a great place to spend your Saturday night. We were wrong. There were a couple of bars and a cracking restaurant opposite the monastery overlooking the water. Our mate Matthias from Austria messaged that he was in the starters hands at that restaurant. What else could we do but go meet him and wash the dryness out of our motor boats with some of the sponsors finest products.

Padron peppers, croquettes washed down with Mahou in very large glasses was the answer. Bloody lovely and cheap as chips. Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman) from Slow Horses was sitting at the next table. Not that we were celebrity spotting.

We wandered back to the hotel, which was a bloody cracker, and Russell had a snooze while I headed back to the monastery with our Pilgrim passports to get stamps. I ran into Matthias walking back and he said the monastery was closed so we may as well have a drink . Not being one to argue, I said ok and we had a bottle of vino Bianco. After that we checked out the “secret garden” of our hotel. We saw Michael and Andrea there and they had a bottle of white which we helped them with. Matthias then went and bought 2 more. This was not going to end well !

We grabbed Russell and ended up having dinner in the garden of another bar with beautiful views of the Atlantic. I’m not sure if I have ever drank as much white wine in any day of my life. Might have had a small stagger on the way back to our hotel.

Breakfast this morning was excellent but, I still felt a wee bit piddled when Russell and I headed out for the 19k stroll to Baiona . Signs were a bit confusing this morning but we decided to stick to the road instead of the trail.

We arrived in Baiona around 1.30 and thought we’d have a few beers and a bit of lunch before we checked into the parador. The street behind the main drag was full of lunchers and great little tapas bars. We enjoyed a few beers, croquettes, cheese and chicken bits in a nice sauce. After that we walked up to the Parador abd checked in. Our room was about as far away from reception as you could get, but it was big and very nice. We both had a bit of a snooze until Matthias messaged and we met him, Andrea and Michael for more food and drinks. Slow Horses  Jackson Lamb and his wife were sitting at an adjacent table. Food was reasonable and we polished off some beers and more white wine. We headed back to our hotel around 8.30 and Russell and I went to our hotel bar for the much needed Barcelos rum and ice, a bowl of chips and watch the last set of the Madrid Open, Young Alcarez has got some game. A lay day tomorrow in Baiona before we walk to Vigo on Tuesday. Too tired to put pics up so will do that Tomis
